The Colour Run
A vibrant 5km celebration of health and community, the Zimbali Estate Colour Run united families with music, fun and colour.
Community programming works best when people are given a reason to participate rather than simply attend.
For the Zimbali Estate Colour Run, the objective was deliberately simple: create an accessible experience that could bring residents of different ages together around movement, health and fun.
As part of a wider programme of experiences developed for the estate, the Colour Run occupied a very different space from Zimbali’s hospitality, lifestyle and sporting events. It was informal, energetic and intentionally inclusive, giving families, children, runners and walkers an experience they could participate in together.
The 5km route provided the structure, but participation created the event.
Colour transformed residents into part of the visual identity as they moved through the estate, meaning the experience became more vibrant as more people joined it. By the finish, the audience was no longer simply attending something created for them. They had helped create what everybody else was seeing.
That principle extended into the surrounding event environment.
Registration packs were kept sugar-free and supported by relevant health and wellness partners including Futurelife, Sunlife Vitamins and Powerade, allowing brand participation to contribute naturally to the purpose of the morning rather than feeling added around it.
DJ Harry provided the soundtrack while Fancy Pants Events introduced face painting before the run, building anticipation and giving participants another way to become visually part of the experience.
Photography by Riverstone Studio then allowed that participation to travel beyond the route itself. The strongest images were not photographs of infrastructure or branding, but of residents covered in colour, moving together and visibly enjoying their community.
Within the wider Zimbali programme, the Colour Run demonstrated the value of changing format without losing purpose.
A community does not always need another formal event. Sometimes the most effective experience is one with a low barrier to entry, a simple shared activity and enough freedom for the people attending to become part of the idea themselves.
