Sasko Grand Reveal Celebration
Sasko’s refreshed identity made a bold debut with a three-city Grand Reveal Celebration, blending heritage, innovation and gourmet flair in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
A brand reveal is not simply about showing people something new.
For Sasko, the challenge was to introduce a refreshed identity without losing the familiarity, trust and cultural recognition built over generations.
The Grand Reveal Celebration series was developed across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban as a way to bring that transition to life physically, giving guests an experience of both where the brand had come from and where it intended to go next.
Each event needed to feel recognisably Sasko while responding to a very different city, venue and audience.
The creative direction balanced heritage with forward movement.
In Cape Town, the historic setting of Laborie Heritage Estate provided a natural connection to legacy and craftsmanship.
Johannesburg introduced a more metropolitan energy.
Durban brought the experience into a working harbour environment, giving the reveal a distinctly industrial, coastal character.
Across all three locations, shimmer walls, LED staging, cinematic content and the unveiling of Sasko’s refreshed packaging and television commercial created the formal reveal moments.
But the experience around those moments was equally important.
Harvest tables, canapés and gourmet food trucks reinterpreted familiar Sasko breads and flours through contemporary food experiences, allowing guests to encounter everyday products in unexpected ways.
Live music, signature cocktails, panel conversations and Masters of Celebration added rhythm while ensuring the events remained social rather than becoming extended corporate presentations.
Food provided one of the clearest opportunities to connect the brand to the experience.
Rather than treating catering as a separate event requirement, Sasko products became creative ingredients.
Bread, flour and baking traditions were reinterpreted through canapés, pastries and contemporary menu moments, allowing the hospitality itself to reinforce the brand story.
This helped connect the refreshed visual identity to something far more familiar: the role Sasko already played in kitchens and homes across South Africa.
The series also reinforced an important reality of live experience design.
Venues are not static.
For the Durban event, the harbour setting had been assessed across three separate site visits leading up to the event, with no unusual environmental concerns present at the time.
On the event day, however, a change in wind direction combined with active harbour operations brought an unexpected odour into the venue environment.
Nothing about the physical venue had changed.
The conditions around it had.
It was a useful reminder that environmental risk can never be removed completely through site inspection alone, particularly in working industrial, coastal or outdoor environments.
That learning has since shaped the way we approach site planning: considering not only the venue itself, but changing weather patterns, surrounding operations, potential sensory disruption, contingency options and the importance of shared client participation in venue evaluation and sign-off.
A site visit tells you what a place is like that day.
Experience planning also has to ask what it might become.
Across three cities, the Sasko Grand Reveal created a consistent national brand moment while allowing each location to contribute its own sense of place.
The series demonstrated how heritage can be respected without being treated as something static, and how familiar products can become part of a contemporary hospitality and brand experience.
It also reinforced one of the less glamorous but essential truths of experiential work:
- Reveal Planning
- Experience Direction
- Production Support
You can control the design of the room. You also have to plan for the world around it.
