Home & Garden Show
A celebration of craftsmanship and community where Zimbali residents explored inspired living through design, décor and local artistry.
Inspired by Zimbali Estate’s Authentic Living ethos, the Home & Garden Show was conceived as more than a traditional exhibition.
The opportunity was to create a curated marketplace around the way residents lived: bringing relevant products, services, expertise and hospitality into the estate and giving brands direct access to a highly defined residential audience.
Hosted at Zimbali Country Club ahead of the festive season, the experience brought together businesses across interiors, home improvement, technology, energy, food and lifestyle, including Hirsch’s, Samsung, Easylife Kitchens, Mayford Seeds, Not a Chef, American Shutters, Vodacom, Freedom Won, Love Laugh Protea and ESquared.
Pam Golding Properties joined as the official brand partner, creating a particularly natural alignment between property, home and the wider idea of life within Zimbali.
The value of the format was in its relevance.
Rather than filling an exhibition floor with unrelated vendors, the partner mix was curated around genuine aspects of residential life. Guests could discover technology for their homes, explore design and renovation solutions, encounter new products and services, and move naturally between commercial interaction and hospitality.
Food and drink from Gulp, Bean Boet, The Bo Bar and the Country Club kitchen helped shift the experience away from a conventional trade-show environment and towards a social day within the community.
But the project also reinforced an important lesson.
A well-designed experience does not create its own audience.
While the experience, programming and partner ecosystem had been developed, the event did not receive the level of advance audience communication required to fully realise its potential. For an event dependent on participation, marketing cannot sit separately from experience design or begin once everything else has been decided.
That learning changed the way we approach experiential work.
Today, we consider the journey to the room as carefully as the experience inside it: who needs to know about it, why they should care, when communication needs to begin, what channels will reach them and how interest becomes attendance.
Where appropriate, audience strategy, communications and the mechanisms that drive participation are therefore considered as part of the experience architecture itself rather than being left entirely outside the scope of delivery.
The Home & Garden Show demonstrated the potential of bringing a carefully selected commercial ecosystem directly into a residential community.
It also demonstrated something equally valuable.
- Lifestyle Experience
- Community Programming
- Curated Living
A remarkable room only creates value if the right people know to walk into it.
